I have always loved fossils, stones and rocks. I imagine the limestone landscape, where I live, as strata, the rocks underneath, rather than the crops on the surface. The thin lightweight tissue paper is machine embroidered. Loaded with pigment and gilded with gold leaf. I aim to transform paper into something that resembles and evokes weight and substance.
The piece is small, just 16cm diameter and mounted into a simple oak frame measuring 34 x 34cm.
The frame is sourced from sustainable forests.
