Carefully pleated Sumi Chinese paper, hand stitched with dark grey embroidery thread. Here are sixteen miniature paper textiles stitched onto watercolour paper. Made during the third Lockdown, and underpinned with security and definition. Living within the restrictions of the pandemic I witnessed evidence of shafts of hope and love, that became stronger in its tightened concentration.
This piece replicates the marks in my landscape drawings made in the fertile arable fields and woodlands in the Cotswold Hills where I live. ‘Abundant’ is intricate with pure simplicity, room and space to breath.
Further drawings have not fallen into the miniature, in fact using the same sumi paper, I have used calligraphy brushes and Indian ink and replicated the marks of the textiles, marks that are becoming quite distant from their parent landscape drawings that were the initial starting point.
